After all, the Elgin Watch factory was the biggest watch factory in the world, with its own jewelling house, watch college, and observatory stretching across city block after city block in the little town of Elgin, Ill. This dynamic company spared no expense in finding the most talented artists and case designers to come up with a look that would set their watches apart from – and above – the rest.

Each watch house sought to be set apart as the leader in style and design. The crash had hit and money was tight along Wall Street to Fifth Avenue: those customers who could afford to pay whatever it took to have the finest, the best, the brightest were rare and highly prized. During this "Jazz Age," Elgin Watch Company decided to garner the spot as the finest house for ladies timepiece – a spot they achieved and held for nearly half a century.
