In 1940 René Bannwart founded the new "Creation Department" of Omega with the idea of capturing the "haute couture and prêt-à-porter of the Glorious Thirties." For the next 15 years he introduced such classics as the ultra-slim Automatic (1942), the Cosmic date with moon phase (1947), the legendary Seamaster (1948), the Constellation with 12-sided or "pie-pan" dial (1952) and the seductive Ladymatic (1955). The Ladymatic was not only a tribute to style, it was a bold engineering step, as few ladies small automatic wristwatches were made up to that point because of inherent mechanical challenges: the smaller a watch, the less effective a weight-driven automatic movement. Bannwart and his Omega engineering team overcame this difficulty by re-thinking and re-designing the concept of an automatic movement, introducing a comparably small automatic mechanism that would fit in a dime-sized ladies watch.

This stainless "Ladymatic" is a product of such engineering, with one of the smallest automatic mechanisms in a commercially produced watch of its day. Measuring 28mm lug-to-lug by a mere 18mm in diameter, the watch sports an original eggshell-tone dial with Arabic numbers and bar markers, marked "[Omega symbol]/Ladymatic/Swiss made." Original stick hands and horseshoe crown also are in excellent condition.

The stainless case in brilliant polish opens to reveal the high jeweled "Ladymatic" movement of its namesake, fully cleaned, oiled and ready to be worn. We've also fitted the watch with a black crocodile strap and period buckle.

This fetching timepiece comes double-boxed in a smart presentation case.

A fine work of wrist art!

We love our overseas buyers, but if the watch is purchased outside the U.S., we must replace the strap with a leather one.
