Kelton was a brand name that was used by several wristwatch manufacturers during the first half of the 20th century. It is been associated with Benrus and Ingersoll. It has been produced in the United States and England in various forms from the very late 19th century right up until the '70s.
While the early mechanisms were not high jeweled, the watches themselves had a good look and were part of the dapper Deco wrist art phenomenon. We acquired this piece out of an estate and while it's something Strickland Vintage Watches wouldn't typically represent, it struck a chord with us because of its positive aura, excellent design and impeccable condition.
We are privileged to have clients with varied interests from horological history to fashion accessories to costume design. This piece, in such remarkable condition – in the box (although the lid is missing) – is the perfect watch for someone who is looking for just that certain final touch of artistic expression, whether that be to impress at a cocktail event, round out a character’s wardrobe, or simply give off positive energy at the coffee shop.
While it does not contain a high jeweled movement, it is a beautiful thing. We confess we love the look of the watch from its 40 mm x 25 mm case to its remarkable state to its handsome and rather unusual leather strap.
While we believe the piece to be new old stock, we did take the liberty to restore the dial as the piece, though relatively humble, deserves complete respect, as it is mesmeric. The watch runs and keeps relatively good time; nevertheless, it’s new old stock and as such hasn’t been serviced.
Please take a moment to enjoy this late '20s early '30s era piece and accept our congratulations if it speaks to you and you choose to make it your own!
