Ah, the pride of the American watch movement – the Hamilton Pocket Watch! Adored by railroaders and collectors the world over; treasured by those who know fine timepieces and hoarded by collectors, the Hamilton is arguably one of the finest horological achievements in history.
Who could possibly resist the allure of the mighty "992B" railroad classic? Not only is this scarce model 992B a breathtaking, absolutely mint example, it features no less than a FLAWLESS “Hamilton/Railway Special” marked double-sunk enamel dial with fully graduated outer minute register, plum-blued spade hands and wonderfully oversized hour numerals – one of the most desirable faces of 20th century railroading.
How better to house such a mechanical marvel than in an original gold yellow-filled fancy railroad pocket watch case(!) Steeped in Deco styling, these cases remind us of all that was good and pure during the golden age of the American pocket watch.
Open the unengraved back and you find one of the miracles of the industrial revolution: A genuine Hamilton railroad watch movement marked "Hamilton 992B/Adj. to Temp and 6 Positions/21 Jewels/U.S.A." These magnificent machines feature 21 hand set ruby jewels in a 3/4 nickel plate and are adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism [the winding down of the mainspring] and six positions. They also feature Breguet hairsprings, double-rollers, a steel escape wheel, fancy line damaskeening, gold jewel setting and a solid gold center wheel.
We have completely cleaned, oiled and calibrated this venerable railroad timepiece so that it keeps good, accurate time. For the railroad man who thinks he has everything, we offer a classic.
We are privileged to offer this work of horological history in what appears to be its original factory box. It is the perfect way to celebrate the excellence of Hamilton Watch Company and the golden age of American horology!
