Gruen emerged as one of the pre-eminent watch houses in the United States, producing accurate timepieces in stylish cases that became Jazz-Age darlings. Watch houses sought to outdo one another, carrying the wristwatch as a fashion statement to ever higher levels, but none seemed to touch the panache of Gruen. Founded in the United States in 1876, the legacy of Deitrich Gruen is a benchmark for watch designers to this day. Who could possibly resist this completely original Gruen Veri-Thin "Yale" model wristwatch – in its original double box with papers? Gruen was quite proud of the technology within this streamlined wonder: throughout the first half of the 20th century, watchmakers worked to make their timepieces as sleek as possible, challenging one another in the marketplace to create a watch that was not only attractive, but unobtrusive.
Enter the "Veri-Thin" as described in Gruen's marketing literature:
"The amazing new Gruen Veri-Thin, with its streamline thinness, is a radically new idea in watch design. The Veri-Thin movement is actually one-third to one-half thinner at sides and ends to fit the spherical arc of the case – yet working parts are full-sized, as they must be dependable for accuracy."
With solid gold applied Arabic numerals; matching sub-seconds register and case design incorporating the finest Deco elements, this classic 36mm by 26mm timepiece is truly the "cat's pajamas."
We have taken the liberty of completely cleaning, oiling and calibrating this original Gruen "Precision Veri-Thin" 17 ruby jewel movement so that it keeps smooth, accurate time. Also, the watch has a new crocodile strap, rounding out a most elegant wrist display. If it is a formal vintage timepiece you're seeking, one that is smart enough to be worn with a suit or khakis around the club, this watch may be just the work of Art for you!
We love our overseas buyers, but if the watch is purchased outside the U.S., we must replace the strap with a leather one.
