When we think of great vintage watches, we think classics that were lauded when produced, then elevated to legendary status as the extent of their quality revealed itself. A great vintage watch transcends the level of ordinary timepieces. It is a work of mechanical art, a triumph of engineering prowess that is also beautiful. It is this marriage between art and engineering that makes fine timepieces so alluring. It's why we're here.
This rare civilian 24 hour wristwatch by Elgin falls squarely within the exclusive arena of wrist art.
Elgin combined the Minimalist/Retro wrist stance we love in a fine watch — a crisp, Mid-Century look with design elements like spear hands and clear numerals — with spectacular engineering. They continued to set the standard in watch design by creating some of the most handsome, resilient watches produced.
This mint example, measuring 37mm lug-to-lug by 33mm in diameter, is a rare true 24 hour civilian wristwatch, factory-cased in crisp yellow gold-fill. Slight foxing to a bone-original dial assures age and quality. Perfect for a pilot or member of the "Jet Set," the watch has a look that is sure to garner attention. Condition is, of course, exquisite.
Powering this stunning work of wrist art is its mint, factory original 18 jewel 729 high-grade movement complete with hacking feature! These movements, along with the 730 railroad-grade wrist movements, were some of the finest ever to be produced.
We have taken the liberty of completely cleaning, oiling and calibrating this classic so that it keeps time as it was intended and are pleased to present the piece in an original factory Lucite presentation box. If it is a true work of horological art you're seeking, you've found it.
