Elgin Watch Company was a grand endeavor from the moment it was conceived in 1864. Smoke from the Civil War had not yet cleared and businessmen were already being lured from Massachusetts' Waltham Watch Company to organize and build a monumental watch factory in Elgin, Ill. By 1865 the company was organized and capitalized with half a million dollars, an unimaginable post-war sum. The company's leaders thrust themselves into the industrial revolution and were, in a few short years, running the biggest pocket watch company in the world. By the middle of the 20th Century they also dominated the wristwatch world, producing, among other popular models the "Lord and Lady Elgin" series distinguished by high-grade movements and progressive case designs.

We're delighted to offer the rarest of birds: a mint, fully-restored true 24 hour Elgin "Durapower" wristwatch in solid stainless steel – seemingly tucked away and forgotten. It has emerged more than a half a century later: pristine, fully restored and ready to be worn and admired!

The condition of this treasure is quite impressive. Its breathtaking 34mm by 41mm case is pleasingly Mid-Century, featuring a mesmeric, fully restored 24 hour dial highlighted with stylized Arabic numerals, bar markers and sweep second. A fluted "flying saucer" case fitted with a winter crocodile strap with matching buckle rounds out a perfect work of wrist art.

Open this amazing timepiece watch and you'll find its factory original, 18 ruby jewel high-grade American-made "729" movement that has been completely cleaned, oiled and calibrated so that it keeps excellent time. We are pleased to offer this American classic a factory Elgin Durapower presentation box.

We love our overseas buyers, but if the watch is purchased outside the U.S., we must replace the strap with a leather one.
