While everyone knows the mesmeric stained-glass masterpieces of Louis Comfort Tiffany, it was his father, Charles Louis Tiffany, who established the iconic Tiffany & Co. jewelry line in New York City in 1837. When describing both men, genius is an understatement, as both were divinely inspired and obsessed with opulent perfection.

Father coined the phrase "New York Minute" in 1853, during the unveiling ceremony of the majestic nine-foot Atlas clock above Tiffany's at 550 Broadway. A hundred and seventy years later, the Atlas still stirs wonder, now at the entrance to Tiffany's on Fifth Avenue.

Early on, the great Swiss watchmakers found a kindred spirit in the spirit and elegance of Tiffany's. A hundred years, during the Mid-Century period, much had changed, yet Tiffany's uncanny sense of prestige and proportion remained. By this time elegance was found not only in opulence but understatement, and it’s those clean Minimalist lines that resonate to this day among many who wish to discreetly disclose their exquisite taste through simple yet weighty lines.

We're intensely pleased to offer our clients this gorgeous work of Mid-Century Minimalism in the form of tactile wrist art. It is the uncommon, much-sought-after "Tiffany T-100,' a Tiffany watch of a deeply satisfying design.

It was absolutely appropriate when it was offered by Tiffany's in the 1960s and it remains so very appropriate today: self-evident; complementary to wearer and those lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the piece – a truly satisfying statement.

It is a dress piece in solid 14 carat yellow gold; automatic and measuring within that golden mean of approximately 40 mm lug-to-lug and 34mm in diameter.

The watch itself is completely original and unrestored, save cleaning, oiling and calibration. The piece is fitted with a period wine crocodile strap: We've taken the liberty of installing a custom-made solid 14 carat gold buckle, as we feel the piece and the wearer should have it. Also, we're pleased to offer the piece in a custom-fitted burl maple presentation box.

It is a wonderful thing; exuding a comfortable, old-shoe elegance that would garner admiring glances in Newport or bumping around The Village. It is not a crisp thing – it has a nick on the bezel and has the glow of proper wear. But it is a perfect thing in its way, with the warm energy of understated elegance.
